From the beaches of Rocky Point, Mexico
I t is all about the beaches and the ocean at Puerto Peñasco. Beaches sandy, rocky beaches, beaches for swimming, shelling or just bumming around. There is windsurfing, fishing, sailing or jet skiing, and ponds to explore when the tide is low. With miles of beaches available extends from northwest to southeast of the city, what you want from a beach, you can find here.
Note that all beaches in Mexico are are, by law, open to the public. Along the beaches of Rocky Point there are rarely rescuers available except that the water is generally very safe for swimming, take reasonable precautions. The best swimming is from May to October, as it is generally too cold for swimming during the winter months. And remember, all vehicles are prohibited on the beaches of Puerto Penasco.
You'll find many references to the beaches of the region as "the West" or "East" because of the way land curves far as you head south. For example, Playa Encanto Playa La Jolla and could be described as "Beaches of the East", while Sandy Beach is a beach "West". I find it a bit confusing, but then if it confuses you, too, I'll describe the tracks as from north to the south, as indeed ultimately do. At right, a Google Earth satellite view showing the general layout of the land.
I'll start This description of the Rocky Point beaches at the north end of Pelican Beach and head south to Playa San Jorge.
Pelican Beach: From North of the city are the beaches in front of the Laguna del Mar and Laguna Shores development, which are located along the curve of Cholla Bay. These two masterplanned developments share a pristine estuary teeming with wildlife – Bring your binoculars and camera! (Future plans for this area also includes the Laguna del Sol and Marina real communities.) Part of the Estero La Cholla large (photo top of this post), we encourage you to help keep this estuary as clean and pristine as it is today. You know: "Take pictures and leave only footprints". Pelican Beach (so called because the number of brown pelicans that hang in the area) is located near the bottom edge of the Laguna del Mar. It is a good place to go clamming or crab. This stretch of beautiful beach curves southwest until it reaches the protruding bit of land where the community of La Cholla is. From road Main north of the city, will take the clear off Laguna Shores / Laguna del Mar.
The Cholla (sometimes spelled La Choya): The Cholla is established foreign-dominated enclave in the former region. Located at the end of a small peninsula that juts like a finger in the sea Cortez at the southern end of Cholla Bay and Laguna del Mar, there is not much in the way of sandy beaches here. Probably the best known is Tucson Beach. Although small, Tucson Beach offers calm water for wading and swimming when the tide is in. It also allows the launch and recovery Easy boat if you happen to live or rent in the region and have a boat.
This peninsula is often called Pelican Point. Its coasts rock are part of a submerged reef 15-mile, and when the tide goes out it goes waaaay out! It is an advantage, however, for anyone who loves to explore the ponds, and due to prevailing winds onshore and shallow water, it is excellent for sailing kite. It is also an ideal place for fishing for snapper red, whitefish, halibut, gold spotted bass and the bass of the Black Sea! Do not count on it.
Sandy Beach (Playa Arenosa): At the southern edge of the peninsula of La Cholla begins scanning miles along Sandy Beach. The construction along its edges (Sandy Beach Resorts) is the first thing you see when approaching the city, you can see the high-rise condos 10-15 miles. There are many activities available in this range beautiful, including swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, parasailing, jet skiing, surfing, fishing, clamming, or just basking in the sun. The crescent-shaped beach has miles of wide sand dunes that runs quiet interior. At its southern end, it merges into Playa Bonita and the two areas share many attributes.
Playa Bonita / Playa Hermosa Playa Bonita / Playa Hermosa sweeps the bottom of Sandy Beach in a large arc to the south to the Peñasco del Sol resort area of downtown and the main beach of the region. Technically, an extension of Sandy Beach, this beautiful stretch beach is popular with locals and visitors with easy access in most of its length. When the tide is very low, algae, rocks and ponds are exposed. This provides an ideal opportunity to explore the basins of the weird and wonderful variety of Marine creatures that live there. Children of all ages love it, but be careful what you touch.
At the north end of this range, you will find the well-established Playa Bonita and Laos hotels Anchoring the south end March, as already mentioned, is the Peñasco del Sol (formerly Plaza Las Glorias). Within walking distance of the Soil Peñasco del are many shops and restaurants, making it a very popular place. On a busy day, parking anywhere near it can be difficult. It is also true of the rocky area of the beach that circles most of the city begins.
Mirador Beach: Located at the corner of Old Port Malecon is the closest beach to the oldest parts of downtown Rocky Point. Composed of two sandy and rocky shores, it is only about three blocks south of the Peñasco del Sol. In addition to the advantage of an excellent beach and tide higher when pooling the tide is low, this area boasts many attractions of the city at night favorite, like Manny's, Pink Cadillac Baja Cantina and the Pithaya. Mirador Spring Break countries, the center of action to celebrate for the crowd of young each spring. The process of beautification Mirador area is well underway, with the development upscale mixed-use planned for the area.
Las Conchas Las Conchas Is mile-long straight stretches of six beautiful beaches with cliffs and sand dunes great low punctuating its length. Located on the northwest shore Morua in the Estuary, the beach is mostly sand and shallow you can walk out in many places, even when the tide is not excluded. Great for offshore fishing and shelling (and stargazing at night).
Playa La Jolla: Located beach development area of the East, about 15 minutes south of town by car and separated from Conchas' Beach Las by the mouth of the estuary Morua. Playa La Jolla offers an ideal place for sunbathing, walking, collecting shells and enjoy the scenery and serenity. While near the city, it is not unusual to find almost alone on this beautiful beach. The beach is wide, sandy and rock free.
Playa Encanto: Same Playa La Jolla, which essentially shares the same beach in La Jolla, and then you already know that the beach is all about. Both are excellent for the bombing, to bring a plastic bag to save your treasure in.
North Beach: North Beach is an area development which has been very controversial for a decade, and the controversy continues to this day. You can learn more about real estate debacles it via Google, but in our case, I will only say that the beaches are outstanding. Playa Dorada and Playa Miramar are two beaches / developments in this field.
Playa Dorada Playa Dorada is almost one minute to 30 of the city. Like most beaches in the region, it is wide, sandy and covered with shells – some of them HUGE. If you like secluded beaches and quiet, you can not go wrong with Playa Dorada.
Playa Miramar: Same Playa Miramar, just below Playa Dorada and sharing all the attributes of the latter.
Mayan Palace: Located in the estuary the Pinta La, 24 km along the Peñasco – Caborca Highway (an order of 30-40 minutes), developing extensive use about 2 miles pristine beaches. Located along the estuary of the Pinta, this place is a haven for marine ecological creatures and birds and excellent shelling. On the part south-east of the beach, about a mile from the station, many creatures of the sea is at low tide, with huge, hand-firms shells. The sand is also ideal for building sandcastles.
Playa San Jorge: Just across the bay of the new Palace Resort Maya, where the earth curves farther south, is the estuary of San Jorge, with beaches that rival those of its neighbor. Although there is some development in the region, if you do that all along the Playa San Jorge you can be assured of isolation, if that's what you want. Bring your own shade, water and plenty of sunscreen. And do not forget your binoculars (for bird watching and creature) and the camera. This is what beaches are everything.
And there you have it. Enjoy the beaches of Rocky Point, Mexico!
